Artivism: Future Projects

7Women 7Heavens: Portraits of Muslim Women
7Women, 7Heavens: Portraits of Muslim Women, is a play about the historical and present day struggles of women living in Islamic contexts. The play was originally commissioned for the WISE Conference in New York City: Women's Islamic Initiative in Spirituality and Equity.
A video clip is available on youtube.com.
It was produced in November of 2006 and directed by Jonathan Cerullo.
Presently, it is being re-worked for national and international production. Please contact me for more information.
Mapping Remittances
A collaboration between multi-media artists and immigrant workers around mapping and remittances.
We hope to use audio and video technology to create new maps of NYC based on the subjective realities of immigrant workers. Included in this mapping, will be maps of their money; where it goes and what it does. How can their stories inform a more complex view of the world we live in and the economic conditions that we exist within? Can we envision immigration reforms that are just and supportive of immigrants?
In collaboration with TIGRA and its New York area affiliates.

Financial Literacy Curriculum
"Shopping is ridiculous because what our spirits need is so vastly out of proportion to the goods we settle for. ... the treasures we cart home don't begin to satisfy the longings that set us on our journeys."
- Thomas Hines, I Want That - How We All Became Shoppers
When young people today set out on their journey of self discovery and self actualization, a great number are unfamiliar with the potential traps waiting to ensnare them. Many get bogged down by uniformed financial decisions and avoidable errors that obliterate their hopes for living their dreams. In embarking on this project, I hope to illuminate the path that all young people take so their deepest desires can be fulfilled with respect and integrity.
Goals:
- To develop students' critical thinking abilities regarding their consumption habits and choices.
- To have students identify their goals and find multiple ways to manage and attain those goals.
- To prepare students to navigate the world of credit, banking, and money. This includes being comfortable using the terminology that is common in those industries.
