The World Over

Gathering and bringing near,
we extend outward and pull in close.
Repeated, it’s a mending motion.
Rake crossing layers of earth
in hands that move quickly now, softly here.
The small mound speaks,
”I will grow again”.
What world warms under your earth?
Is there a memory of our connection?

As autumn blows into NYC, (finally the weather is warrants wooly clothes and snuggly socks) I’m thinking about all the ways this season asks us to gather in closely. Whether by wrapping ourselves in layers, or collecting leaves and nuts, or by planning meals and sharing our homes, this season calls us together. When we gather, what intentions are we calling forth?

This fall and winter I hope to multiply our connections. Creating opportunities for us to speak and share, remember and grow, align and perceive what’s possible when we come into conversation.

JOIN US ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 17TH

The World Over: a conversation between Refugee Artists and with the refugee history of HB Studio. The artists will discuss leaving home, making work, and finding new ways to start again and make art again. This conversation comes to HB from resident artist Kayhan Irani and the artists at Artistic Freedom Initiative (AFI).
FREE with RSVP.

As you all know I continue to walk with and advocate for Afghan artists and culture bearers struggling to find a new lease on life.

Please consider signing this letter to Congress to pass the Afghan Adjustment Act, giving Afghans already in the U.S. a smoother pathway to resettlement and stability.

Or consider a Zoom phone banking session with Project Hajra tomorrow - November 15th.
